New selection categories have recently been added to Canada’s Express Entry program in an effort to improve the immigration process and attract skilled workers. Sean Fraser, Canada’s Minister of Immigration, officially announced the official start of category-based selection draw for Express Entry applicants. Prospective immigrants now have exciting new opportunities to pursue their aspirations of residing and working in Canada.
KB1 Immigration Services Immigration based in Edmonton and fort MacMurray region provide immigration and student visa services. Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will pay special attention to Express Entry candidates who have employment experience in any of the following fields or who speak French fluently.
- Careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics
- Carpenters, Plumbers, and Contractors
- Agriculture and Agri-Food
According to the minister, enabling IRCC to send out more invitations to qualified individuals in these particular professions will help Canada meet its objective to attracting in-demand workers to all of its areas.
Why are there new categories for Express Entry?
In order to fill positions across Canada, additional categories have reportedly been developed, according to IRCC. Immigration is anticipated to be essential in preventing the labour shortage and enhancing the status of the French language in French-speaking regions outside of Quebec.
Fraser says, “Employers all around the country are complaining loud and clear about the persistent worker shortages. These modifications to the Express Entry process will guarantee that they have access to the qualified workers they require to develop and succeed.
What Criteria Does the IRCC Choose to Report On?
The categories were chosen in accordance with legal requirements that the Minister take part in open consultation with provinces and territories, business leaders, labour advocates, unions, employers, and organizations that provide services for settling immigrants.
The categories used by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) are based on
- Details and projections regarding the labour market
- Responses from partners around the country, including stakeholders and the provinces and territories each year, they deliver reports to Parliament on:
- The categories selected the previous year.
- The selection and justification procedure
- The regulations to establish categories
- The quantity of invitations were given out for each category
- Include information on category-based selection in the year-end Express Entry report.
- Monitor and analyze categories on a regular basis.
What is Express Entry?
In order to address the shifting demands of Canada’s economy and labour sector, Express Entry was launched in 2015. Three economic immigration programs—the Federal Skilled Workers Program, the Federal Skilled Trades Program, and the Canadian Experience Class—are managed using this application management system.
Candidates for these programmers receive scores based on human capital variables such job experience, language proficiency, occupation, education, and more using the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). The most likely recipients of an Invitation to Apply for Permanent Residence were the applicants who received the highest total CRS score.
